This game was made to use in a 'Word Work' station after students have learned about short and long vowels. It is a memory game where students will lay all cards face down. They will choose two cards, reading the words as they pick them up. They are looking for the short vowel word that matches a long vowel word- example: rob & robe. If students get a match, they get to keep the cards and go again. The person with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner. I have also included a recording sheet for students to sort and record all of the words from the game.
This activity aligns with the following common core standard: RF.1.2a- Distinguish long from short vowel sounds in spoken single-syllable words.
