This activity is great for station work (partner or individual), and interventions. As a nice bonus feature, I made these cards 2 ¾” x 1 ½” so that they would fit into the expensive suitcase-style pocket chart I already had. These may fit for your existing pocket charts too!
There are 10 header cards and 45 sorting cards. The header cards state “long (vowel)” and “short (vowel)” and are outlined in green and magenta. These should be cut out separately. The sorting cards are words and pictures paired together. If you cut out the matching word and picture out as a single piece using the dashed line, you can fold the paper vertically on the fine dotted line and now you have a single card with text on one side and a picture hint on the other. :-)
Differentiate the sorting as it best suits your student – give them one vowel or several at a time, and determine how many sorting cards you want them to work with in one sitting. Have fun with this one!
