Short Vowel Phonics Cards with Visual Blending Support

I hope you enjoy using these color coded CVC short vowel drill cards with added visual support to sound out and blend real and non-words. No frills, just clear single consonant and short vowel words for short a, e, i, o, and u. 264 cards included.

Print out one specific vowel pattern, or print all patterns and mix for drill. Use for literacy centers, individual instruction, or to send home for home practice.

To use?

1. Print and cut each drill card. Laminate and paperhole punch if desired.

2. To drill, instruct learner to put their finger on the “dot” below each word and say the letter sound. Alternatively, use the dot as a visual reminder to “tap out” the letter sounds on their fingers.

3. Instruct the student to move their finger below the three gray dots to the black line.

4. Have the learner move their finger across the word while blending the sounds together to make a word.
