These 72 decodable word cards align with Welcome Back, Superkids units 4 and 5 to review phonics covered in the Superkids Kindergarten program. When using the Superkids Reading Program, I find most students need extra time to focus on the skill covered by each unit. This read and keep card game isolates CVC short vowel words and is perfect for small group, reading intervention, tutoring, and student centers.
Are your students needing CVC practice? Wanting to keep the learning fun before it becomes frustrating, I created an emoji-themed 'read a card' game for back to school centers and small group time.
72 (mostly) CVC (note: Superkids Reading Program does introduce multi-syllable decodable words at this level, so some are included) word cards are included, as well as 12 'change it up cards.' The goal is to get the most cards, and the game suddenly stops when students pull a card telling them to 'stop.'
Directions are included with easy to read sight words and pictures, and suggestions for volunteers are included.
I hope you and your students enjoy! This type of card game is quickly becoming a class favorite for my firsties. I love that they are still learning and also how little prep it is (even when laminating). Place the cards in a can (save those coffee cans!) or a small paper bag, and your kids are set to go.
