Students can practice reading short vowel words then apply that practice to reading those words in sentences. I have turned this into a game and the students love it! I cut the boxes and turn them face down. On the back, I number them and students draw a number from a bag and that is the card they read. I continue until all the cards are read or each student has had at least three turns. It builds confidence when reading the sentences since they have already mastered reading them in isolation.
