Start each week by doing activities 1 or 2 on the first day. The next day, students can work on any of the other activities suggested below. You can either have them work on one or two task cards each day.
① Missing Sound: Students fill in the missing blanks with the short vowel that is missing. Their two options are at the top of the worksheet
② Word Sort: Students cut out the squares along the lines. Once all the words and the two letters have been cut out, students sort the words on a blank piece of paper. This can be done on loose paper or in a word study notebook.
③ Speed Sort: Students sort the words as fast as they can. They can either time themselves or a partner can time them.
④ Speed Sort Challenge: Challenge a partner to see who can sort their words quicker
⑤ Word Hunt: They search for ten other words for each sound. Students can look in books, around the room, and in magazines.
⑥ Spelling Bee: Students give each other a spelling test. Partner A reads the words while Partner B writes them down
⑦ Spelling Bee Challenge: Fold the paper in half so that the writing is facing out on both sides. Hold the paper directly in between you and your partner. You each have ten words! Partner A asks Partner B how to spell a word. If Partner A is right, they get a point. See who can answer the most questions correctly! When you’re done, turn the paper around and test again! Make sure they take turns after each word.
⑧ Rainbow Writing: Write each word in the list using every color of the rainbow!
⑨ Flashcard Madness: How fast can you read each flashcard correctly? Use a timer or ask a partner to time you!
⑩ Turn all the cards upside down and mix them around. Take turns turning over two cards. If both cards match you get to collect them. The player with the most cards at the end wins!
