This set includes the following activities all with short vowel a words:
Roll and Read: Students roll a die and practice reading short vowel words.
Meltdown: Cards are stacked face down in the middle of the group of students. Students draw a card and read the word. If students draw a “Steal a Cone” card, they may take another student’s card– IF they can read the word correctly. If a student draws a Meltdown card, the round ends. The students with the most cards wins the game! (I choose to count the meltdown and steal a cone cards.)
Four in a row: Students take turns reading and covering words to get four in a row. You can use counters or the provided covers.
Reading passages: Students read the passages three times and highlight the short a words. Then they answer the questions.
At the Beach: Students roll a die and read the words. If they land on a Stuck in the Sand space, they must go back one space. The first one to land on the finish is the winner.
