Spelling and or Phonics PowerPoint for Short -e
This PowerPoint introduces 20 short –e spelling words. These words are actually two spelling lists for differentiated instruction. The first ten words are yet, pen leg, bed, ten, web, wet, hen, pet, and net. The next ten words are get, men, sent, fed, tell, jet, when, tent, met, and bell. The activities are done one per day. This is 3 days of quick spelling activities. This can also be used in small groups.
The first activity is just an “Introduction to Words”. The word is at the top of the page. Under the word is a sentence that uses the word and the word is underlined in the sentence. There are great graphics that illustrate the sentence. This is great for visual learning and better comprehension of the sentences and words. The students who have this list just write the underlined words. The students who are not on this list (they are on the second list) try and put the underlined word in a new sentence. The next list all students write the underlined word. If students want and can they can write the word in a new sentence.
The second activity is “Fix the Mix”. The spelling words are scrambled and the students write the scrambled word correctly. Then the next slide shows the word in the sentence with a graphic that helps students visualize the word. Some words will have a graphic and a sentence. For example, the word “at” would have a sentence to help explain the word. The students who are on the second list try to put the scrambled word in a sentence.
The third activity is “Fill in the Blank”. There is a sentence for each of the spelling words. The students have 3 choices d must pick out the correctly spelled word out of 3 choices. The students who are on the other list find the correct word and put it in another sentence. The next slide shows the answer.
I read everything to students. For the second list students who are on list one can try and write the correct spelled word or find a word in the sentence they know and write it. Students can either write their answer on paper or use dry-erase boards. Students can use paper or dry erase boards. Students can also do this with a shoulder partner. This would also be a great tool to use during small groups, re-teaching, RTI, etc.
