This product includes:
2 versions of 5 short vowel “e” cut and staple emergent/early reader booklets (regular version called Step A+ and easier version called Step A) for a total of 10 cut and staple booklets
1 comprehension test for each booklet
1 scrambled sentence worksheet for each booklet (unscramble the words to make a corrected sentence)
pocket chart card vocabulary word pages for each booklet
speed read short vowel “e” word page (2 copies per sheet)
I use the cut and staple booklets during guided reading groups in my first grade classroom to supplement the reading program adopted by our school system. My students look forward to having their very own little book that they can take home to read to their family. Each booklet contains short vowel words and basic sight words. The book can be used as a learning center if you so choose.
There are 2 versions of the story. I created 2 versions (Step A+ and Step A) because I have a wide range of learners in my classroom. By having 2 similar stories, the students that are a little behind don’t realize that their instruction is being differentiated.
The Speed Read word page was created with the DIBELS test in mind. I try to have the students practice speed reading pages at least 3 times each week.
One student told me the reason why he likes the Scrambled Sentence worksheets. He said, “Mrs. Roberts, this is kinda like a game.” These sheets help reinforce print concepts.
Pocket Chart Cards have been included. You may choose to use these to introduce the story or have them in a center for students to read the words to each other.
There is a comprehension test for the story to be used at the end of the lesson. I read the test aloud to my reading group that needs extra support. For my more advanced group, I allow them to read the test and give assistance with words if needed.
Please note that some of the clipart used is “line art” which is black and white. Other stories use color clipart. I have not had any problem printing the color clipart as grayscale.
Thank you for your purchase.
