If your students are practicing their short vowels, then this Valentine Activity could be just what you are looking for to use in your centers or small groups. Students simply spin the spinner to determine which sheet they will use: a, e, i, o, or u. Either attach a purchased spinner or teach your students how to spin a paperclip using a pencil. Run as many spinners as you would like. Then once student has the corresponding sheet, student will read the words aloud and dab the word once read correctly using a bingo dauber. (I use pink, red, or purple for Valentine's Day but you can use any color.) Most words are CVC words, and some have beginning or ending blends. Most of the words have 3-4 letters. If you need this to be self checking, students can do this in pairs or with a parent volunteer.
Students love using Bingo Daubers but if you don't have any, you can use mini stickers or simply markers or crayons as well. Also, I just run a pile of the black and white sheets so my center is stocked up and needs very little upkeep on my part.
