Short “a” Long “a” Underwater Card Game Fun
This fun underwater card game helps students practice the short and long sounds of the vowel “a”. Similar to Old Maid, the students try to find the matching pairs of cards. Each time they draw a card, they must read the card to see if they are holding the matching card. Be careful of the whale and crab cards, which add a twist to the game. The player with the most cards at the end wins the game.
This card set can be used as a sorting center for –a-, and –a-e words. A recording sheet is included to check mastery of the standard.
This card set can also be used as a Memory Game.
This game is based on the Common Core Standards:
CCSS K.RFS.3.b Associate the long and short sounds with the common spellings...
CCSS 1.RFS.3.c Know final –e ...for representing long vowels.
