This is a list of 28 words on the short e vowel consisting of CVC and CVCC like pet, vet, set, ten, net, bed, sled, tell, sell, well, etc. There are two decodable short e-stories, Jen's New Pet and Meg's Red Pen. There are twelve questions (answers with choices given) for each of them. Besides, there are a variety of activities to work on the family words.
For the stories, the reading is teacher led, teacher and children choral read the story together, children echo read the sentence after the teacher reads one sentence, or the children fills in the word the teacher leaves out as she reads the sentence. The children can read the story to each other.
The stories can be used as a prompt for the children to write one sentence about their favorite pet or what they can draw with a color pen. The children then draws the picture and write a sentence about their drawing.
