Following on from my Vocabulary Petite Pocket Program comes this Memory program. Working as a Speech Pathologist in the school system, teachers often refer students who are struggling to recall simple directions, follow through on set tasks, remember words and write simple sentences. Often a lot of this can be put down to storage of information in short term memory and the ability to then act on it.
The program includes skills relating to:
* word recall
* short term auditory memory
* sentence comprehension
* attributes and functions
* holding information in short term memory to then process
* repetition of alliterative sentences
* developing strategies for retention of information.
The program is structured to take a month to complete, with 3-5 minute activities for each day of the month. The program is small and discrete, able to be stored in a handbag or pocket to be taken anywhere at anytime. It's also a great program to use in those brief 2-3 minute periods of time before snack or home time in the classroom.
I am hoping that in using this program, your child/student is given a daily impetus to stay 'active' in their ability to process language that requires sustained attention and memory.
