Description

This resource has FIVE Short u CVC Words Color By Code Worksheets for your class. If you are looking for a resource for phonics remediation while still giving your students some confidence by reviewing important literacy skills, you will love this series. This FIVE Short u CVC Words Color By Code Worksheet Resource focuses only on a FEW Short u CVC Words per page. What are CVC Words? CVC words are basic, three-letter words that begin with a consonant, have a middle letter with a short vowel sound, and end with a consonant. For kindergarteners and early readers, they are simple to sound out because they don’t include any of the tricky blends or diphthongs commonly found in the English language. Short u CVC Words are an essential skill to master in Kindergarten. Students need to be able to isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words. The five pages have only a few color selections and only a few Short u CVC Words, to help your students focus on the repetitive pattern of numbers of Short u CVC Words. All the while giving your students a fun and exciting review of important literacy skills at the same time! You will love the no prep, print and go ease of these printables. Cute and colorful, they would make a wonderful addition to your student work bulletin board or to their home refrigerator "art museum" while having some Short u CVC Word Fun learning and reviewing important skills at the same time! With the five Answer Keys also included, this helps you quickly and efficiently check your students work in a very short amount of time.

Short u CVC Words Color By Code Worksheet Resource Lesson Plan Ideas:

Monday - Project page 1, short u words, bus, bud, bug, but, cut, and cup, to introduce Color By Code to your class with a step by step direct teacher-led lesson on the overhead document camera. I start by showing the students line by line what color is the answer to what word. So for example, "bat = orange" I color the entire "bat =orange" with an orange crayon. Once your students know your procedures, the remaining pages can be used by your students independently. An alternative, based on the ability level of your class, is that this teacher-led lesson can also be completed during your reading small group lesson on Monday.

Tuesday - Use page 2, short u words, dug, fun, gun, gum, Gus, and gut, during morning work, reading seat work, reading centers or small group time.

Wednesday - Use page 3, short u words, hum, hug, hut, jug, jut, and lug, during morning work, reading seat work, reading centers or small group time.

Thursday - Use page 4, short u words, mug, nun, nut, pun, pug, and pup, during morning work, reading seat work, reading centers or small group time.

Friday - Use page 5, short u words, rub, run, rug, sun, sum, and tug, during morning work, reading seat work, reading centers or small group time. For a "Fun Friday" let your students use markers, pastels, colored pencils, or watercolor paints today. It may not be perfect, it may be a little messy, but after five days you will have a great understanding and enough documentation to know if your students know their long vowels.
