Do your students tend to "tell" the reader what is going on rather than showing it in their writing? This product is scaffolded to help students compare "telling" sentences to "showing" sentences and understand why using details and being specific is a good writing strategy. There are 4 worksheets designed to first help students identify better sentences, highlight key words and make a quick sketch. Then students will find good examples in a book they're currently reading and write about it, record more descriptive and specific words in a chart and then finally practice rewriting sentences on their own. These worksheets could be stapled into a packet for a little mini-unit.
