Hey Teachers! While watching my students solve math problems one morning, I realized that I needed to give the more practice on solving problems in multiple ways, not just the way I tell them to. Viola! “Show Your Thinking” review days evolved! My students love them. I simply post these problems on a half sheet of chart paper (with the problem attached to the top and extra room below for the students to use). I then spread the sheets around the room. Students are broken up into ten groups to allow for some communication and brainstorming. Each group starts at one problem. After a set time, they rotate to the next question. THIS is the key! They are not allowed to solve it the same way. They must think of another way to solve the problem than the groups that have gone before them. This is where they are pushed to their own limits and outside of their comfort zone (and the love it!). It forces them to think of models, equations, breaking a problem apart, number lines, words, etc. The possibilities are endless! I hope your class enjoys these as much as mine does!
