(Math With Mrs. Vickmark)
Portions of this document have been redacted for the preview version.
This project was designed as an end-of-the-year final project for my Applied Math course, but I actually intend to use it for some of my other courses this next year. It could be used at the end of a chapter, unit, quarter, semester, etc. It can easily be modified to suit your project needs. The primary purpose is to get students thinking about their learning and to better understand the objectives of each lesson, activity, project, etc. that they complete throughout the course. I have found that when students truly understand the intention of each topic we cover, they tend to internalize the material better.
DETAILS / INFORMATION:
1) The first page and the last four pages can be printed on regular paper.
2) I included the ACT Standards because that was what I focused my Applied Math course on at the time. You can easily use the Common Core Standards or any other specific set of standards or objectives that you choose.
3) I would recommend printing the Math Standards Cards (whatever set you choose to use) on cardstock. For the complete ACT Standards, you will need 18 pages per set. It seems like quite a lot, but it was truly worth it to have the students physically see everything that they are expected to know by the time they take their standardized tests.
4) The project (and thus set of standards) can be shortened so that only the standards used in the selected time frame are included in the project. This is likely how I will proceed in the future.
I spent about a week and a half to two weeks on this project at the end of the school year, but this project could easily be cut shorter or extended to fit your needs.
