5 amounts of money are given. Students need to show the amount using pictures or words. They only need to show one way to reach the amount (though multiple correct answers are possible). This direction can be modified so that students need to show multiple ways.
Can be used as homework or done in class (whole group, small group, centers, and so on). No answer key provided because different answers are possible. You can also add in the direction that answers need to include the smallest amount of coins possible (4 quarters for $1 instead of 100 pennies).
Students can discuss and defend their ideas in a group after page is completed. Have them explain their thoughts and why they answered each problem in the way that they did. Compare answers to see how many different (and correct) answers are possible for each.
Feel free to modify to fit your needs.
