This creative writing exercise can be used in a variety of ways. It was created to allow students to practice creating characters in prose writing by showing and not directly stating what each is like. Once they practice using this worksheet, they can apply the new skill to their own original writing. It can also be used to help students differentiate between direct and indirect characterization. The majority of the Telling column is direct characterization, while the answers created for the Showing column should utilize indirect characterization. No answer key is necessary as answers should vary among students.
