Did you play with shrink dinks as a kid? I think you would be surprised at how many of your students have not! Let's have some fun with them and reinforce accurate measurement skills at the same time.
In this activity students use colored pencils or sharpies to decorate a piece of plastic with images of what they think "science is." Then they will take before and after measurements (length, width, height and mass) of a piece of shrinking plastic film and evaluate the changes.
It is a very short, yet engaging activity and all students will leave with a souvenir necklace, keychain or zipper-pull when they are done. Welcome to science!
