If you conduct Speech Therapy in Spanish, and you love incorporating books into therapy sessions, this is the pack for you!

Laura Numeroff's "Si le das una galletita a un ratón" ("If you give a mouse a cookie") provides so many opportunities to target language and early reading skills.

Use this packet to have fun practicing:

Elements of a Book
• Fill in the blanks to identify title, author, main character, and setting.

Phonemic Awareness
• Using labeled picture cards with reading cues, read single words from the story, phoneme by phoneme.

Phonologic Awareness
• Use syllable cards to build the word pictured on the card.
• Fill in the missing syllables on a worksheet. (for in-session or home practice)
• Match the labeled picture cards with the rhyming word card.

Auditory Comprehension
• SLP reads the directions aloud. (Directions relate to color and object function.) Students complete directions on the provided page.
• SLP draws a card and states a 1-step or 2-step command (what food to give which mouse, e.g., "Give one cookie to the mouse with the necklace."). Students feed the mice accordingly, then check their action against SLP's card.

Prepositions
• SLP states a direction, e.g., “Put your mouse between the chairs/under the chair/behind the chair,” etc. Student completes the direction.

Expressive Language
• Students looks at the two pictures, find six differences between the two, then state the differences aloud.

For additional expressive language practice:
• You may also revise preposition activity and following directions activity to be expressive language activities.
→ Prepositions: SLP puts a mouse card somewhere, and students state where it is. E.g., “The mouse is under the chair.”
→ Simple directions: Student draws a card and states a direction to the other students or the SLP. E.g., “Give one apple to the mouse with the blue hat.”

“Any Target” Game
• Print the 2-page open-ended game board and attach inside a file folder. Use for any therapy targets.
Note: use any therapy cards/prompts you have on-hand for the targets of your choosing (e.g., artic cards, etc). Therapy cards, dice, and game tokens are not included.

Have a super fun session, reading one of students' favorite books, then incorporating these multiple therapy targets!

The following story vocabulary are used in this packet:
ratón, galleta*, vaso, sorbete**, espejo, servilleta, tijeras, escoba, cama, libro, pluma, cinta

* "Galletita" is used in the book; "galleta" in the packet.
** Spanish has more than 10 words for "drinking straw." This packet includes the vocabulary used in the book, "sorbete."
