One thing I love about teaching Siddhartha is how unlike other novels it is, both in content and style. But this difference makes it hard to assess in a traditional way, like reading checks or tests. So how do you make sure your students are reading each night without giving them a reading check? I developed these logs so my students could practice the art of clear, concise summary writing. Each entry is also paired with space to reflect on their own ideas about the book and its themes. This log sheet can be used to ensure homework completion, but also to push students to think more deeply. The guide includes homework logs, extension activities (including ideas for student-generated discussion questions) and two customizable rubrics for assessment. The completed logs can then be used as a student-created study guide for the final assessment, be it paper, test, or something creative!
