This 12 page colorful powerpoint lesson introduces students to the definition of a side dish, and describes examples of many different types of sides: grains, pastas, potatoes, vegetables, fruits, and mixed foods. There is also a page that describes how to cook rice and how to cook pasta. The final page is an activity for students to do at their table. This powerpoint fits perfectly with my Side Dish Notes Graphic Organizer and my Side Dish Quiz. I usually have two cooking labs with this lesson: Cooking pasta and rice; and cooking vegetables 4 ways: roasted, steamed, microwaved and stir-fried.
