This is a packet I use with my students who are beginning to sight-read, or for those students who come to me never having learned to read music. It is designed to target and isolate sight-reading based on lines or spaces (1s and 3s or 2s and 4s) using all of the notes in the first position on the violin. I purposely left the score open so it can be customized based upon key signature. The same sheet can be used in the sight-reading practice of any key or finger pattern. It really helps my students to limit their options when they first learn how to read. These sheets use basic rhythms, including quarter, eighth, and sixteenth note bow rhythms consistent with the first five years of Suzuki study. The packet comes with a sheet describing several ways one can use these exercises to practice sight-reading speed and facility on the violin.
