This file contains a sight word assessment and practice pages for learning the first 300 Fry Instant Words. An assessment record sheet and pages for a student book are provided. Activities include: handwriting practice, letter shape boxes, word graphs, checkers, and sentence completion. They can be used in literacy centers, homework, small groups, interventions, etc. Use the assessment tools for progress reports, parent-teacher conferences, and to monitor progress for RtI.
Sight Word Handwriting:
Each handwriting practice page includes a different set of ten from the 300 words. Students trace and write the sight words while practicing their handwriting.
Sight Word Letter Shape Boxes:
Each page includes a different set of ten from the 300 words in a word bank. Students must find the correct boxes to match the shape of the letters in the word.
Sight Word Graphing:
Each of the 30 graphs includes a different set of ten from the 300 words. Students circle the words in the box with different colors (using the same color for the same words). Then they count the words for each color and graph the number of words found. This activity integrates literacy and math.
Sight Word Checkers:
Each checkerboard includes a different set of ten from the 300 words. Use checkers, buttons, coins, beads, or other small objects to play this game of checkers. Each player will need 7 objects; make sure there are 2 different colors, styles, or shapes. Players must correctly read the word on the checkerboard before moving to that square. If incorrect, the player must choose another move. Play like regular checkers.
Sight Word Sentences:
Each page includes a different set of ten from the 300 words in a word bank and ten sentences with one of the sight words missing. The missing word is replaced by letter shape boxes. Students read the sentences and find the correct word to match the shape of the letters in the word and complete the sentence.
