Do you teach sight words, but struggle to meet the needs of the lowest performers and/or higher performers? Do you work in an RTI/MTSS school where effective data collection is necessary? This complete system provides all the reproducible materials needed to effectively assess K-3 students on sight words and ensure that students are progressing at an individualized rate. Two pages of concise directions will help you to set up this system in an organized and efficient manner. Once your Sight Word Assessment System is up and running, only minimal prep work is needed throughout the year to maintain the system.
Dr. Fry's first 300 Instant Words are divided into 30 lists. Each list includes the sight word in isolation as well as a sentence for context. Parent communication forms are provided so parents know how their child is doing and what words need practicing at home. A Spanish version of this parent form is included along with a class roster sheet and guidelines for analyzing the data.
Field use shows very high MOTIVATION for students when using this system. Your students will want to share with you (and their parents!) all the words they have learned, and they are eager to take their weekly assessment.
For Special Education teachers, this system can be used to develop IEP objectives. The lists are manageable, for students, with only 10 words per list. The highest performers can work with two lists at one time.
Did you know. . . . .
the first 100 words make up 50% of everything we read??
the first 300 words make up 65% of everything we read??
AND, did you know that these 300 words should be mastered by the end of 2nd grade?
