Here is a great way for students to practice reading sight words AND emergent writing skills.
Students start with one of the NINE premade books containing the sentence starters and themes:
I see the (pond life)
I can go to the (places)
The ___ can go. (transportation)
I can (playground)
We have a (pet)
I like (zoo animals)
He/She is a (Halloween costumes)
He/She is a (community helpers)
He/She is (-ing verbs)
Students then choose a picture to complete from the clipart sheet to complete the sentence. (Copy in grayscale to save ink!)
Two clipart pages are included for each book:
1. 8 pictures with labels included under each picture.
2. 8 pictures with blank boxes under the picture. Students can either try to label the picture independently, or can choose a word from the word bank on the clipart sheet to label the picture!
Students LOVE reading these books they wrote during Read to Self time!
