I designed this booklet for students to practice the sight word “can” at a Writing Station or as a whole group activity. “Can” is taught in Unit 1 of the Reading Wonders series by McGraw-Hill.
Students can use picture clues to read the predictable text and practice tracing the word “can” in each sentence. They can fill the page with their own drawings of monkeys playing in each sports scene. Use as many open-ended “Monkeys can” sentences as you’d like to encourage even more original writing.
This activity is perfect to use with “Monkeys Can Play Sports” Sight Word Practice for the Pocket Chart, which is also available at my TpT Store.
Create a class set of each page.
Cut each page in half horizontally.
Create booklets using one of each page and add as many open-ended “Monkeys can” pages as you’d like.
Staple together and let the learning begin!
