This writing activity is for students to practice writing the sight words “I” and “can” at a Writing Station or as a whole group activity. These two words are taught in Unit 1 of the Reading Wonders series by McGraw-Hill. This activity is perfect for the beginning of the year as all pictures show activities and skills Kindergarteners are learning how to do.
Students can create “I can” sentences that match the pictures by tracing the words “I can” and using inventive spelling for the rest of the sentence. Use as many open-ended “I can” sentences as you’d like.
Create a class set of each page.
Cut each page in half horizontally.
Create booklets using one of each page, fewer pages, or open-ended pages with the blank “I can” sheets.
Staple together and let the writing begin!
Use in conjunction with Sight Word Practice for the Pocket Chart (Words: I Can)
