The sight word pages in this packet offers students additional opportunities to practice reading the most common words from the Reading Horizons program. Consider keeping the Reading Fluency cards or book in students’ book bins for use during independent or partner reading time so that students are reading the words each day. As students master the words, students can read the list to an adult or accountability partner and move on to the next list of words or phrases. The phrases are intended to be review pages and to help ensure students are not just memorizing the list of words for the sight word check.
To help encourage students along the way, students may color in the circles or apply stickers to the front cover to show progress. Likewise, on the individual pages, I usually add a smiley face or a sticker to the bottom near the date section to show the child has read all of the words with fluency. The list of sight words are divided into more than one book so that students feel a sense of accomplishment every so often and can also take the books home to share with their families.
Included in this packet:
- Sight Word Cards: Each card has 10 sight words. For lists with more than 10 words, the words are divided into sets of ten words. The words can be stored on a binder ring for easy access.
- Sight Word Booklets: There are 3 booklets that cover all 22 lists of sight words. There are 10-15 sight words per page. Each booklet also includes opportunities to read the sight words in phrases.
