It is important for young readers to instantly recognize words by sight in order to build reading fluency. It is also important for readers to practice words in meaningful context through phrase and sentence reading practice.
The Dolch list books are organized by the order of word frequency. The words in this product sample are: the, to, and, he, a, I, you.
This product is great to help reinforce the identification of common sight words without the need for “drill and kill”! Students are motivated to read the words to make their own book to take home. They love coloring the Super Hero when they have finished with their page. See preview for example of package contents and actual photo.
Directions for making the book are included. For your convenience, we have made 2 books per page. Simply print the pages, cut down the middle of the page to form 2 books and staple the half pages together.
Students (1) look at the word, (2) write the word, (3) circle the word in a phrase or sentence and (4) cut and paste the letters in the correct order in the provided boxes. Students then write their own sentence using the focus word on the back of the page.
A complete list of Dolch words from lists 1-5 and 6-11, as well as,
Student Data Sheets (As you assess your students, mark the words they know on the Student Data Sheets.)
Flash Cards (Copy a sheet for each student. Indicate the words they need to practice at home.)
are included in the bundled products.
