This book is in my collection of emergent readers that focus on learning to read and write sight words. All books in the collection have two versions included:
An 8-10 page book that has a complete sentence. The students can focus on the sight word by underlining, highlighting, or circling the sight word.
An 8-10 page book that has a blank for the students to write the sight word.
I always hand out the books (when introducing new Literacy Stations) as we sit in a circle and we read the book whole group or individually. I also use this time to work on print awareness. I have the students take a picture walk, point to each word as I read, count the words in the sentence, count the letters in our sight word, locate the punctuation, etc.
This is also a great time to work on using different reading strategies (use pictures clues, stretch it out, flip the vowel sound, look for chunks in the word, skip it and come back to it. Check out my Reading Strategy posters in my store.
This book will then go into my Sight Word Station, which is one of my weekly Literacy Stations.
