We used this activity after reading The Big Hungry Bear and the Red Ripe Strawberry, but can also be used as a stand alone sight word activity. It has 54 high frequency words in English, and 41 high frequency words in Spanish, both at a Kindergarten level. Also includes 39 words at a higher kindergarten/first grade level in English.
Print the pages in color. Cut out each strawberry and attach to a 3x5 note card.
Laminate for durability if desired. Students will lay out all the cards, strawberry side up. While the others close their eyes, one student will hide the bear underneath a card. Going clockwise around the table, each child then takes a turn trying to find the bear. The child reads a word on a card. Once the word has been read, they can look under the card to see if the bear is there. This card will then be flipped face down. If the bear is not there, the next child reads a word and looks. This continues until the bear is found. The child who finds the bear gets to hide it next. All cards should be flipped back up before the bear is hidden again.
In addition to the ELA Common Core Standard listed below, this activity also addresses teh Common Core in español.
