Sight word recognition and fluency are super important for your new readers. You have stopped at this product so you know how important it is for your students to be fluent at recognizing their sight words. "Put a Ring On It" is a favorite for my emergent readers. It is simple, low prep, and extremely ink friendly with student sheets completely B&W. Included with this product you will find 20 different pages, which are all marked at the bottom by lesson number for easy organization. These pages include the first 100 Fry Words but this activity works well whether or not you use this list or any other sight word list with your students. Sheet #1 uses the first 5 words, sheet #2 uses #5-10, and so forth. Please note the photo preview shows the font in this product as Comic Sans but this has been updated and does not include this font.
Simply copy the page for each of your students. Begin by reviewing the words on the sheet, which are located at the end of each finger. Then simply call the words out randomly. Your students will have a few colored pencils and simply draw a line across the corresponding finger. I encourage my kids to begin at the knuckles. You can adjust the speed and frequency of each word depending on your student needs, And you can use this for any amount of time you choose, but I use this as a quick review at guided reading group time. This is perfect for small group, parent volunteers, peer tutors, and many more.
