Here's a game designed to help students learn to fluently read and write Fry Sight Words! It's handy for literacy centers, partner work and homework.
This pack includes 10 “Box It, Write It, Read It” games for the first hundred Fry Words. There are games for:
• Fry Words 1 - 10
• Fry Words 11 - 20
• Fry Words 21 - 30
• Fry Words 31 - 40
• Fry Words 41 - 50
• Fry Words 51 - 60
• Fry Words 61 - 70
• Fry Words 71 - 80
• Fry Words 81 - 90
• Fry Words 91 - 100
To play, each player picks a color. Partners take turns drawing a line to connect two dots. When a player boxes a word in, he/she traces the word, reads the word and writes the word. Play continues until all words have been boxed in. Then, the fluency work begins! Each student practices quickly reading the words he/she wrote, the words their partner wrote and then all of the words. I like to challenge students to:
• Read the words he/she wrote in one breath.
• Read all of the words using a one minute timer.
This pack also includes a parent letter explaining the game and encouraging families to play at home.
Let me know if you'd like these games for additional words. I'd be happy to build upon this set. Many thanks for stopping by and taking a look!
Sincerely, Anne Gardner (NBCT, Literacy)
