Sight Word Fun
Looking for a new way to practice reading sight words? Your class will love this fun sight word fly swatting game!
Contains the words from Dolch lists 1 and 2
the, to, and, he, a, I, you, it, of, in, was, said, his, that, she, for, on, they, but, had.
at, him, with, it, up, all, look, is, her, there, some, out, has, be, have, go, we, am, then, little, down.
This game is a great small group activity
. Print a fly swatter (or provide a real one) for each child. The teacher calls out a sight word and the first child to swat the correct word takes it and adds it to his/her pile. Continue until all the flies have been swatted. Be sure to call out a few other words or nonsense words too. When these words are called out the children must swat the flies with no words on them.
This game can also be played as an independent center
with a confident reader taking the teacher’s role or each child taking turns to swat the flies. If they can read the word they can add it to their pile.
Each word is written on a big and small fly so the game can be used as a matching pairs
or memory game too.
Or cut out the flies and stick them to your classroom window as a cute word wall
