Directions for Playing the Game
1 six sided dice with numbers 1-6
Colored counters for each player (up to 4)
1. Players roll dice to see who goes first.
2. Player one rolls the dice and then chooses a square in the corresponding column of the number he just rolled.
3. Player one reads the word in the square. He then uses it in a complete sentence. For example: Board 1 Player rolls a 3 then chooses the word “can” from the 3 column. He reads the word and then says the sentence “I can run fast.” If player one is correct, they place a counter on the square. If player one is incorrect, then player two takes their turn.
4. Play continues until one player gets four squares in a row either across, down or diagonally. This player is declared the winner of the game.
5. This game is great for reading centers as it does not require much direction from the teacher.
6. This game is also good for a higher achieving student to play with a lower achieving student so they can help the lower achieving student.
7. This game covers the ninth 100 words on the Fry Complete Word List when listed by level.
8. This game is great for learning to read sight words because it is fun but the students are learning at the same time.
