Are you looking for a new and interactive way to practice sight words? Well, it might be time to break out your "air band" and Rock Your Sight Words!
What Is This?
This is a presentation that is intended to be projected for the class, however, it could be used on individual computers/laptops. As you progress through the slides, a sight word will pop up. Students call out (read) the sight word. Some slides will be "special" slides. Some tell students to play their air guitar, air keyboards, or air drums. During this time, students pretend to play their instrument. (I tell the kids that they are playing their instrument and not singing, so it stays quiet.) The last "special" slide shows a character singing. During this slide the students will sing their ABC's. Following each "special" slide is a slide that counts down 3,2,1 and stop. This slide has the class count down and settle to quiet. It forces them to refocus before the presentation goes to the next sight word.
How Do You Use This?
I teach the sight words in the order presented in this slide. The presentation is NOT editable. So, once I have taught about five words, I start using this presentation. I only go through the words that I have taught. As we learn more words, I progress further into the presentation. As the year progresses, we will learn all of the words and this product will make for a great maintenance review activity.
