Have students practice reading sight words fluently with this engaging winter game! As students read their sight words before the snowmen melt away, they never guess that they are really just practicing flashcards.
Year after year this simple activity (game) has been a favorite of my students. It is a wonderful way for them to practice sight words with their friends. My students often beg to play the game during their free time, or during inside recess. Just print the file on cardstock, or mount on construction paper and laminate.

Did you know that when students master the 220 words on the dolch list they have mastered what they need to read up to 70% of any text? That’s HUGE!
I recommend introducing this activity in a whole group setting, but after students have learned the rules of the game, it works extremely well in small groups or as a center.
This game includes words from the Dolch Primer List:
all, am, are, at, ate, be, black, brown, but, came, did, do, eat, four, get, good, have, he, into, like, must, new, no, now, on, our, out, please, pretty, ran, ride, saw, say, she, so, soon, that, there, they, this, too, under, want, was, well, went, what, white, who, will, with, yes 52 Words in All!
