Practicing sight words (Fry Words) with your students is a breeze with this low prep game. Included you will find 2 different sets of game cards to choose from. The Red Set is for readers who need lots of extra practice learning their sight words. Each card in the Red Set has 4 of the same words on it, which allows the students to practice and learn each word while gaining confidence. The Blue Set of cards has 4 different sight words per card.
Each set includes 25 sight word game cards. The games focus on the following sight words: the, of, and, a, to in, is, you, that, it, he, was, for, on, are, as, with, his, they, I, at, be, this, have, from.
You may choose to use all of the calling and playing cards, or simply start off with a few and introduce the others as you need them.
Print the game pieces on card stock and laminate for durability. Cut out the calling cards, ZOOM! cards, and game boards.
RED SET Directions:
Shuffle the calling cards and place them face down on the playing area. Each player receives 1 or 2 game cards (varies according to the needs of the child). One player at a time turns over a calling card and reads the word. The player with that word gets the card and places it on his/her game board. Play continues until a player fills his/her card. That player receives a ZOOM! card and places it on his/her board calling out “ZOOM!”. At that point you may continue to play until all cards are filled, or you may begin a new game.
BLUE SET Directions: (Game markers such as counters, cubes, mini erasers, etc. are needed.*)
Shuffle the calling cards and place them face down on the playing area. Each player receives 1 or 2 game cards (varies according to the needs of the child). One player at a time turns over a calling card and reads the word. Each player with that word will mark his/her game board. Play continues until a player fills his/her card, yells out "ZOOM!", and is the winner of that game. The winner becomes the "caller" for the next game.
*Note: You may choose to use Dry Erase Markers on the laminated game boards instead of game markers.
I hope your little ones find this game to be fun and engaging. The children that I am currently tutoring are loving it!!
