Description

What could be better than your students ASKING to practice their high frequency sight words every day? Everyone has a chance to win, and they won't even realize they are working and learning! This fun game is never the same twice! It can be used in literacy centers, in reading groups, or even for indoor recess. See the list of words below for which words are included.

How to Play Pair Stare

Watch the preview video above or read on.

  • Six words are found on each card (orientation and size varies).
  • Find the one and only matching word on both cards.
  • When you find it, call out the word. It's more challenging than you might think!

Each card includes a small gray code with which list it is, and each list varies in font and/or color for easier sorting in case they get mixed up. A recording sheet is included, as well as instructions for various ways to play.

Want to try this game out before buying? You can download the first deck in the Fry version of this game for free here.

Note: This set of sight word games contains 217 of 220 commonly used sight words (all words shown below). Three words that are not included are: at, up, & black.

What Teachers are Saying

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "First I got the free Fry words for Pair Stare. My class played it during center time the last two days. They are hooked! I love that my best readers are sometimes not as fast as my slower readers due to the design of the words on the cards. Everyone has a chance to win! I chose to buy the Dolch set over the Fry sets just because it's what we focus on at our school. Thanks for a terrifically fun game!"

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "LOVE THESE! Looking forward to building sight word fluency with this activity! I love playing games with my kids so they don't even know they are working and learning at the same time. "

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "One of my favorite sight word centers. I love that they're leveled so I can provide different sets to different groups of students!"
