These lists are composed of Fry’s first 300 words broken down into lists of 20. There are 15 lists overall. The lists will go home with each child and he/she will practice at home. One day a week students will read the lists to an adult. If a child can fluently read them, he/she will color in one circle of the maze and get the next level list to take home to practice. If a child does not read the words fluently, he/she will keep practicing at home (and perhaps may do some extra practice with sight words in class). This process is repeated until the children have mastered 300 words (or, okay, the end of the year comes for some of them).
This is a great packet that helps children set goals. Setting goals has been researched over and over again, and research shows that it almost always increases achievement in the specific skill area. I am not saying that this pack will help all students, but I do believe it is a step in the right direction.
