Sight Word Practice – Fry’s First 100

Mastering sight words is such an important part of learning to read, especially at the kindergarten level! I like to give my students a variety of ways to engage with sight words – in the classroom we use movement, tactile activities, and songs/chants. However, I also like to give my students ways to interact with their sight words in print.

I created this download to include over 100 sight word practice pages and word wall/word ring cards. You can use these pages in a variety of ways – as extra homework activities, independent work, as a part of the writing center, for morning work, or as extra reinforcement during small groups.

Fry’s First 100 sight words are included: the, of, and, a, to, in, is, you, that, it, he, was, for, on, are, as, with, his, they, I, at, be, this, have, from, or, one, had, by, words, but, not, what, all, were, we, when, your, can, said, there, use, an, each, which, she, do, how, their, if, will, up, other, about, out, many, then, them, these, so, some, her, would, make, like, him, into, time, has, look, two, more, write, go, see, number, no, way, could, people, my, then, first, water, been, called, who, am, its, now, find, long, down, day, did, get, come, made, may, & part.

In addition to Fry’s First 100, I’ve also included practice pages and word wall/word ring cards for the following sight words: me, got, here, play, saw went, & where.

Each practice page is formatted to include the following tasks to help students engage with and master sight words:
Build It!: Students cut and glue the correct letter tiles from a random group to build the given sight word.
Rainbow Write It!: Students use crayons, markers, or colored pencils to trace the word using at least 3 difference colors.
Find It!: Students will find and circle the sight word 4 times within a group of sight words of various fonts.
Read and Highlight It! Students will read, then highlight, the sight word in the context of three sentences. All the sentences were created with early readers in mind and primarily contain sight words and easily decodable words.
Write It! Students will write the sight word 3 times.
Use it in a Sentence! Students will construct their own sentence using the given sight word. As an alternative, students may copy one of the sentences from the Read and Highlight It! box.

Not only do these practice pages require NO PREP on your part, they were created using black and white clipart so they also save on ink!
