This packet includes a variety of interesting and engaging activities to increase your students’ fluency with the Dolch sight vocabulary words Pre-Primer-1st grade. It includes:
3 worksheets in which the students illustrate a sentence that features sight vocabulary. (“They have three purple pencils”. Pencils, and other nouns that are not on the Dolch list, are represented by clipart)
3 worksheets in which they cut and paste words and pictures that rhyme
3 pages in which sentences with unknown words are included-students use multiple reading strategies to decode unknown text, then locate a matching illustration
1 page in which the first part of a sentence is matched with the appropriate 2nd part of the sentence, then written on the bottom of the page
4 Word sorts that include syllable sorts, vowel sound sorts, and vocabulary/concept sorts
Worksheets that most likely would be done with guided instruction:
- 2 pages of riddles with a sight vocabulary word answer- 1 set a bit more challenging
- 1 page of analogies using sight vocabulary
3 Cloze passages in which students fill in the blanks to complete the story
5 pages in which students “build” words using sight word “onset/rime” patterns (_ake, _ack)
1 page in which students alphabetize sight vocabulary (3 words in each group)
A total of 26 unique activities that give your students practice identifying and reading sight vocabulary!!
These worksheets were not designed to include EVERY word on the Pre-Primer-1st Grade lists- the priority was to provide practice with a variety of strategies and skills Therefore, please consider this packet as “supplementary” not “primary” instructional material while teaching your students sight vocabulary.
