Sentence building is fun and engaging with this hands-on interactive spring literacy activity. These sentence builders can be used with a diverse group of early readers. From single word/picture phrases, to repetitive phrases, to multiple sight word sentences with 6 category sets of spring picture vocabulary and sight words, this product has something for everyone.

Organize sight words into sets based on student needs. A period card in included for each set for students who are working on punctuation.

Differentiation Options:

Level 1: create single word-picture phrases; a _____. the _____. Students select a picture to complete the phrase.

Level 2: 3-word phrases are organized in word order and the student finishes the sentence by adding a picture at the end of each frame. Teacher can reduce phrase to two words as needed. Option to use multiple sentences with the same phrase to reinforce sight words through repetitive patterns or include multiple phrases to meet student needs.

Level 3: 3-word phrase out of order. Student sequences the selected 3-word phrase and adds a picture to form a sentence.

Level 4: multiple text patterns. Student is given a set of sentence frames with different text patterns. Each set has a different color frame outlining the words. Student sequences words and add a picture to form a sentence.

Picture vocabulary sets include things we do in spring, things we see in spring, spring animals, spring weather, spring garden, earth day/going green.

Instructional Organization of Materials:

  • pocket chart with picture bank in top or bottom row
  • table top or carpet-pictures in a basket or on picture board or file
  • flip strips-attach words and picture to sentence strip with velcro strip
  • cookie sheet with magnetic strips on back of words and pictures
