Teachers near and far, I am so excited about this product and pleased to share it with you! This is a great hands-on activity for students to practice fluency, sight word recognition, writing AND comprehension all in ONE product! This product can be used for guided reading centers, homework, pull-out services for lower students, morning work, and more! You can use the sheets in any order, or create a book to show parents and students the growth over the year!
How to use it:
Students should read the words from left to right until they can read them automatically. Students then have to cut out the words and figure out what order they go in to make a complete sentence. Students will eventually notice the first word is always capitalized and the last word in the sentence has punctuation. After students sort the words, and make a sentence, they can glue them in the correct order. Students must write the sentence on the lines and then comprehend the sentence to create a matching picture. You can generate higher order thinking and ideas by asking what the sentence suggests that needs to be included in the picture. For example, if the sentence is "This is fun!" Ask students what does "this" mean? They should come up with an answer that signifies a "person" thinks a certain activity is fun. Therefore, the person in the picture should depict doing an activity that shows they are happy and enjoying themselves. The same goes for the sentences that have plural words. It is a great, quick way to assess students ability to understand parts of a sentence and include those details in their picture.
Your students will love this product as it is a hands-on way to practice many skills. They will forget they are learning sight words and becoming a fluent reader! It also helps with following directions, print concepts, vocabulary development, parts of speech, sentences structure, types of sentences (telling, asking, exclamatory), punctuation, prewriting skills and more! This can benefit children of different ages and for different areas of struggle.
