Want an easy way to track, motivate and reward your students sight word knowledge? Look no further. I have typed up 1000 sight words. These come from the Houghton Mifflin reading series and the Dolch Sight word list. They organized into lists of 20 words. There are 5 lists on each page. The way I use this is copying page 1 on red paper. I also make a red star for each student to display on our bulletin board. Each time a student passes a list they get a star sticker on one of the points of their red star. When they pass all 5 lists on the red page I move them to page 2, which I have copied on orange paper. They get an orange star on the bulletin board now and each time they pass a list on the orange page they get a star sticker on one of the points of their orange star. I continue this process on different colored paper for each of the 10 pages. If a student completes all 10 pages they will have 10 stars on our bulletin board.
With this purchase you will receive all 10 pages of sight words (50 lists, 1000 words). I have also included a parent letter explaining the process and star templates. I use our star punch at school so I don't have to cut out stars though. I also included a little ticket that says Congratulations! You've passed list ____. Start practicing your next list. This lets the parents know that their child passed.
My students really enjoy seeing their progress displayed on the bulletin board. It also drives them to try and get the most stars. When I switch to this method I was shocked at how much they were practicing their sight words at home now!
