Sight Word Swat
There are many different ways you can use this bundle
of Dolch Sight Words for Kindergarten through grade 2.
I will list a few of them here, and I am sure all you
Creative teachers can find even more ways to use them!
Sight Word Swat:
Materials needed: sight word flies of your choice
fun fly swatters (you can find
cheap ones at the dollar store!)
Procedure: Have students work in small groups of
3 or 4. Each group should receive a set
of word cards (flies) and 2 or 3 fly
swatters. Place one person in the group
as the “fly releaser” and the others can
be the fly swatters. The fly releaser takes
two cards (flies) and places them down in
front of the other players. The first person
to swat the fly and say the correct word
on the fly gets to keep that fly. The role
of “fly releaser” can be rotated each turn
or be kept the same for the entire game.
**** I have found that if you print and then laminate these
they will hold up longer! They can also be printed on
Sight Word Swat Match:
Materials needed: Print out two copies of the words
that you would like to use.
Procedure: Play this game as you would any other
matching game. You may even add the fly
swatters into it by letting them swat them
when the student gets a match
Materials needed: fly swatters (one for each child playing)
copies of the words (flies) you wish to use cut out and
placed around the room.
Procedure: Place the fly cards around the room in
various places. Have students go on a fly hunt!
Have them walk around the room in search of
the flies and when they find one they should
swat it and say the word. If they get the word
on the fly correct they may keep that fly.
Fly Sight Word Practice: You may use these cards as
basic practice when working with a student or have them
work alone or in small groups, they may swat the fly with
the swatter and then practice saying the word! Using the
fly swatter as a fun gimmick when practicing the words.
