Sight words are essential to reading development. These take home booklets are to be used by students to take home and practice. Once a list of 10 words is mastered, the student brings the booklet back to school and reads them to their teacher. The teacher attaches a sticker to the goal page and then staples a new list to the booklet. This listing includes:
a booklet for the Dolch Pre-Primer to Third Grade Sight Word Lists,
an EDITABLE version for you to create your own list,
& a bonus 100 Words to Know version.
The Dolch Sight Word List comprises 80% of the words you would find in a typical children’s book and 50% of the words found in writing for adults. Once a child knows this list of words, it makes reading much easier because the child can then focus his or her attention on the remaining words. Sight words should be memorized rather then trying to be sounded out. Please do not confuse these words with other words that may need to be sounded out phonetically.
