Sight word tic-tac-toe has always been a favorite way to practice the Dolch sight words for both my students and my students' families. It's a great way to make mastering these high-frequency words both fun and engaging! Each page (2 game boards per page) focuses on four or five pre-primer sight words. The game plays just like regular tic-tac-toe aside from the added piece of reading the sight word in the box the player wishes to go in. The player must read the word correctly in order to place their X or O in that box. If they don't read the word correctly, I have always allowed my students to try a different word in a different space and after their turn they may ask the other player for help reading the word they missed. The game is a great way to motivate our young readers to master these high-frequency words.
